Profile: Chris Foy

Foy started officiating back in 1983 and became a Football League referee in 1994 before progressing to the Premier League as an assistant referee in 1995.

The 48-year-old’s first match as ref in the top flight came on 15 December 2001, a goalless draw between Bolton Wanderers and Charlton Athletic.

In 2009 he took charge of the Carling Cup final, when Manchester United prevailed 4-1 on penalties against Tottenham Hotspur.

Everton fan Foy also refereed the 2009 Community Shield, where Chelsea beat Manchester United 4-1 on penalties after an enthralling 2-2 draw.

Most recently, Foy was in charge of the 2010 FA Cup final between Chelsea and Portsmouth, when Carlo Ancelotti's men ran out 1-0 winners at Wembley.
