Murray blitzes Young to make quarters

Thursday, September 8, 2011

Britain's world number 4 wasted no time booking his place in the last eight after the prior two days at Eliminating Meadows were washed away by rain, wrapping up the victory in just under two hours.

"I would be a little bit frustrated in the middle of the second set because I was returning nicely, hitting the ball well from the back of the court and was giving him chances that I shouldn't have been just because of not serving good enough," said Murray.

The two-day rain delay pressured tournament officials to quickly rearrange the schedule, leaving Murray facing the daunting prospect of having in order to win four matches in four days to earn his first Grand Slam title.

"It's not ideal (too play three days in a row) but that's what you have to cope with. You've just got to get on with it," he added.

"You have just got to try to embrace the situation as well as do all the right things to get yourself ready if you have to play four matches in four days. But I'm still a long method from having to perform four matches in 4 days."

Muray will encounter big-serving John Isner in the final eight after the high American took three tie-breaks beat France's Gilles Simon 7-6 3-6 7-6 7-6.

Despite his reputation for holding serve, and the need for three tie-breaks, Isner was broken 4 times, twice apiece in the first two sets.

But roared on by the partisan New York group, he found his rhythm and unleashed 26 aces on his way in order to victory.

Isner said had been expecting a tougher match from Murray.

"I played him in the Sydney Open in 2010 and that he beat me pretty easily," Isner said. "He would kind of take the environment out of the ball and hit a lot of short angles and obtained me moving.

"I'm going to have to change a couple some misconception. He's one of the very best returners in the online game, so I'm going to have to serve my best. After i do get my chances on the return, I'll have to take all of them."

In the men's doubles tournaments Colin Fleming as well as Ross Hutchings were made to wait for a conclusion to their quarter-final match against fifth-seeded Rohan Bopanna and Aisam-Ul-Haq Qureshi after rain interrupted play.

The actual match was intriguingly ready in the third set with the British pair 5-6 down, but 30-15 up when organisers decided to postpone the clash late upon Thursday with the those who win having to play once again on Friday.
